The Joy of Laminating (And Other Fun Preschool Stuff)
I am now the proud owner of my very own laminating machine. I know–exciting, right? With this little beauty, I can now make activities that might actually stand a chance of surviving the sticky fingers of this house.
Here’s my new baby:
I got mine at Target for like $28.00. Loved that price tag. And, so far, it’s worked really well! It heats up quickly and then you just stick whatever you want laminated in one of these:
You send it through the machine, do any trimming or cutting necessary, and you have yourself some wonderful plastic-coated items! My husband’s just lucky he didn’t come home to find everything in the house laminated. It’s a joy to use.
My laminator joy brings us to another love of mine: the amazing materials found at Montessori for Everyone. The lovely creators of this site have an extensive library of downloads perfect for anyone working at home with their children. All of their items are available for very reasonable rates (most things are less than $5) and they also have an entire section of free downloads. Love these! Here are a that couple I downloaded, printed, and laminated for our preschool shelves, all for free:

Matching the insides of fruits with their outsides. Kind of a fun twist on normal matching activities and the pictures are mouth-watering.

The child sorts through the cards and matches the insides and outsides. This is also a great way to teach the names of different fruits (there are some fun ones in this bunch like star fruit and kiwi).

Here are the control sheets that allow the child to check their own work to see if they got them all right.

Here's another cute one. This activity is great for teaching about groups, sorting, differences, and what makes things similar.

It's your basic "what does not belong" activity, but I just love the gorgeous images. So fun to work with!

The child takes one of the "x" pieces and places it over the item that does not belong with the others in the group. In this case, it was the bird's nest.

Here's Pearl working with the second activity. She watched intently as I laminated it and cut it all apart and then pounced on it, eager to work with it.
I am so grateful that this company is willing to share some of their awesome activities for free. The image quality and the time they have taken to make everything easy to assemble and work with are truly fantastic. I have their catalog and plan on purchasing some of their other sets of activities down the road.
So, take a minute and head on over to Montessori for Everyone–you won’t be disappointed, I promise!
*And, no, they have no idea I even exist nor did they pay me to say any of this. I just love their products!

That is bad that I know that there is a laminator for that inexpensive.
LOL My laminator is my best friend and MFE is a close second!!
Marcie- I’m not sure if this is cheaper than having it done at a supply store. I think I paid between $7 and $8 for a pack of 20 letter-size pouches. I can’t remember exactly. Next time I’m at Target, I’ll check (I couldn’t find them on their website for some reason). I just love the convenience. Since I only get the car one day a week, I enjoy being able to laminate whenever I want without having to make it a family outing
I guess it would depend on how often you plan on laminating.
Wow, I love posts like this! Thank you so much for your kind words and I love seeing children actually *using* our stuff. So glad you like the free downloads – it’s fun to think of things to make each month.
I love my laminator too! I buy the pouches in packs of 50 from Staples or Office Max and it seems like a good deal compared to paying for them to do it.
Thanks again!
Hi, Lori! I’m such a geek–getting a comment from you was like a celebrity moment for me
Thanks again for your great site and products!
I understand completely – I’m the same way when I get a comment from someone who is “known” in the Montessori community. That’s one reason I like to always comment whenever someone blogs about us
So happy to see other people get so excited over laminating! Raven, I really think we may be long lost twins
I am so glad that you are finding and sharing all these great resources! YAY!
That is a great deal! I need one! And don’t you just love those parts of fruit cards from Montessori for Everyone! My daughter loves that work!
Thanks so much for your comment on our pancake. I just had to take a picture after she asked for Australia!
LOL, it is moments like that I want to remember!

Mandi–I’m so glad that you are enjoying them! That means a lot!
Stacy–Long lost twins! I love it. Isn’t the internet a great connecting tool?
Jody–It’s not every day you come across a pancake with the image of the Australian continent etched in it! And thanks for dropping by
Guess who asked for and received a laminator for her birthday? (It’s me!) I’m super excited to try out some of these ideas. Thanks

I’ve been wanting to get a laminator for awhile now — how much are the sheets for your particular laminator? I’m always wondering if it is cheaper to just take a trip to the teacher store and have them do it for me or if I should just buy my own machine.
